Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. The put-in is not too far from San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up     sleeping in your car. This stretch of Arroyo Hondo River is 8 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class V section. On this section you do get some distance, suitable for an afternoon trip. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Kincaid Road to Calaveras Reservoir stretch is one of them. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. Briefly about the general area: Not much precipitation falls here at Arroyo Hondo River; the month with most of the rain is January; July on the other hand is the driest. At Arroyo Hondo River during the summertime months highs are in the 80's with nighttime lows in the 60's.
