The beautiful scenery of California and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream attract people from near and far. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an     area with not too many other places for that. The starting location is a short drive from San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This stretch is mid length, you can easily run it on an afternoon. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. Briefly about the general area: Arroyo Hondo River is pretty dehydrated commonly; the month with most of the rain is January, and the driest month is July.   At Arroyo Hondo River during the months of summer highs are in the 80's, and during the night it cools down to the 60's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 50's with temperatures at Arroyo Hondo River dipping down into the 30's all through winter nights.
