The Arroyo Seco Picnic Area to Route G16 bridge section of Arroyo Seco River is 14.5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III section. The scenic beauty of Monterey County and the water flowing gracefully down Arroyo Seco River are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This stretch is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so keep in mind that
quite a few of the sections here are not easy. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you won't find many other paddling places. Whitewater paddling here in the Santa Lucia Range is a great experience. For all you camping
people there are campgrounds nearby. The Arroyo Seco Picnic Area to Route G16 bridge stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more. The put-in is not too far from Salinas, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page.
