The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in California are often more challenging than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you won't find a large number of other places. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have     reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The Arroyo Seco Picnic Area to Route G16 bridge section of Arroyo Seco River is 14.5 miles long and has been rated as a class III section by American Whitewater. The nature scenery of Monterey County and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Arroyo Seco Picnic Area to Route G16 bridge section is one of them. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more. When you're paddling down a Santa Lucia Range river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. This stretch is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so pack your camp stove. Briefly about the general area:   Summertime at Arroyo Seco River comes with high temperatures in the 70's. Summer nighttime lows drop down to the 50's. All through the winter highs are in the 60's while Arroyo Seco River night low temperatures through the winter are in the 30's.
