The average California whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. If you're coming from Salinas it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost.
Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you won't find a large number of other places. The campgrounds here at
Arroyo Seco River are pretty good. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. The wild scenery of the Santa Lucia Range is great. The wonderful Monterey County scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so pack your camping stuff.
