Hamilton to Del Valle Reservoir section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS IV     28 miles   This section of Arroyo Valle River in Santa Clara/ Alameda County is 28 miles long and is a class IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The starting point is not too far from San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The wonderful California scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in California is often tougher than elsewhere, so better not forget that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable     for beginners. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. The campgrounds here at Arroyo Valle River are pretty good. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Mt. Hamilton to Del Valle Reservoir section is one of them. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are not so many other good places for that around here. Briefly about the general area: At Arroyo Valle River you don’t see much rainfall; most of the rain falls through January; July is the month with the least   moisture. McGlinchey Spring is a glorious local attraction. For the duration of the days of summer at Arroyo Valle River highs are mostly in the 80's.
