The Mt. Hamilton to Del Valle Reservoir section of Arroyo Valle River is 28 miles long and it is classified as a class IV section by American Whitewater. The natural beauty of Santa Clara/ Alameda County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. You     can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are not so many other good places for that around here. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Mt. Hamilton to Del Valle Reservoir section is one of them. You can enjoy this stretch more if you take your time, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. The put-in location is a short drive from San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Briefly about the general area: Arroyo Valle River is a location that is quite dehydrated ordinarily;   most of the rain falls throughout January while July is regularly the driest month. A short visit to McGlinchey Spring is always worthwhile. Through the summer months at Arroyo Valle River temperatures are usually in the 80's. Once the sun is down it dips down to the 60's.
