The starting location is a reasonable drive from Red Bluff, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The wonderful California scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water beats anything. This section of Battle Creek in Shasta / Tehama County is 13 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III(IV) section. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you won't find a large number of other places. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great
attractions for lots of people. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. You can enjoy this stretch more if you take your time, so why not pack your
camp stove too. The campgrounds here at Battle Creek are pretty good. This is one of a small number of paddling stretches in this river system, there are a few others too. When you're paddling down a Southern Cascade Range river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
