California whitewater - Battle Creek, Southern Cascade Range, Shasta / Tehama County
Shasta / Tehama
county,
Manton Road section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS II-III(IV) 13 miles
The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. This section of Battle Creek in California is 13 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-III(IV) section of whitewater. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Red Bluff, as you can see on the road map further down. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. There are some good
stretches to paddle in this river system, the Manton Road stretch is one of them. There's camping available near Battle Creek. The river winds through the Southern Cascade Range and you get great scenery. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time,
so go ahead and pack your camping stuff. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The beautiful scenery of Shasta / Tehama County and the playfulness of the water beats anything. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with not too many other spots for that.
