The scenic beauty of Tehama County and the water flowing gracefully down Battle Creek - South Fork will make you feel great. This section of Battle Creek - South Fork is 11.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-V(V+) section. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many runs in this state are not easy. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so pack your sleeping bag. The put-in is not too far
from Red Bluff, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area
you won't find many other paddling spots. The Southern Cascade Range scenery is wonderful. The Close to Ponderosa Way to Manton Road section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.
