This stretch of Bear Creek in California is 9.5 miles long and is a class IV(V+) section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The Hydro to Highway 44 section is the only paddling section along Bear Creek. The natural beauty of Shasta County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for     more. The Southern Cascade Range scenery is wonderful. This stretch is mid length, it's good length for a morning trip. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The average California whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so better not forget that lots of rivers here are not for beginners.
