Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so don't forget that rivers here are less forgiving. The natural beauty of California and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream have people coming here. The beauty of the Coast Ranges is a great plus for this river. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Close to Geysers to Iron Bridge section is one of them. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back
for more. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Clearlake, as you can see on the road map further down. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular
destination. This section of Big Sulphur Creek in Lake County is 4.6 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-V section. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a pretty small number of paddling spots. On this section you do get some distance, it's perfect for a one day trip.
Briefly about the general area: All through the warmest time of the year at Big Sulphur Creek highs are generally in the 90's. Throughout the
moonlight hours it's regularly in the 50's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 50's, and overnight lows through the wintertime for Big Sulphur Creek tend to be in the 30's. There's no way somebody can get bored here in the Coast Ranges. Going for a hike on the Cadd Fire Trail
is always a good adventure. If you're here at Big Sulphur Creek, checking out Eagle Rock is a must, and a splendid site to take a look at is Coldwater Canyon. Big Sulphur Creek is a relatively wet place ordinarily with much precipitation; January is when you get the most rain here; July is the month with the least moisture.
