The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Clearlake, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This section of Big Sulphur Creek in California is 4.6 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-V section of whitewater. Whitewater paddling here in the Coast Ranges is a great experience. The beautiful scenery of Lake County and the water flowing gracefully down Big Sulphur Creek have people coming here. There's camping available near Big Sulphur Creek. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and
some kayaking, either way around here you won't find a large number of other spots. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Close to Geysers to Iron Bridge section
is one of them. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in California is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This stretch is mid length, it's perfect for a one day trip.
