The nature scenery of Lake County and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This section of Big Sulphur Creek is 9 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class IV-V section. This is a pretty decent length section, good for a one day paddling trip. The put-in is not too far from Clearlake,     as you can see on the road map further down. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Iron Bridge to washed-out crossing section is one of them. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. When you're paddling down a Coast Ranges river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. There are many good hotels to choose from, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with not too many other rivers for that.
