  The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. The starting point is not too far from Clearlake, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. This section of Big Sulphur Creek is 9 miles long and has been rated as a class IV-V section by American Whitewater. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping
    in your car. The wild scenery of the Coast Ranges is great. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you won't find a large number
of other spots. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Iron Bridge to washed-out crossing section is one of them. The campgrounds here at Big Sulphur Creek are pretty good. This stretch has has enough mileage, good for a one day paddling trip. The beautiful scenery of California and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle.

For the duration of the summertime at Big Sulphur Creek temperatures are mostly in the 90's while night lows are generally in the 50's.
 
Throughout the winter highs are in the 50's; winter nights come with lows in the 30's to Big Sulphur Creek.
The high level of rainfall makes Big Sulphur Creek a reasonably wet location; the month with most of the rain is January while July is typically the driest month.
