The natural beauty of California and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The Headwaters at Basin to Middle Fork Eel stretch of Black Butte River is 24 miles long and is a class IV+ section
of whitewater according to American Whitewater. This stretch is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. The beauty of the Klamath Mountains is a great plus for this river. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater
rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good rivers for that around here. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This is the only paddling section along Black Butte River.
Briefly about the general area: Throughout the warm months here at Black Butte River, high temperatures generally get into the 90's, and the night is somewhat colder of course, commonly in the 50's. The wintertime brings highs down to
the 50's with temperatures at Black Butte River dipping down into the 30's throughout winter nights. Much precipitation falls at Black Butte River; all through January this area sees the most rain; July meanwhile is the driest month. The beauty of mother nature reveals herself at Chief Spring.
