Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in California are harder than the national norm, so if you're not from around here don't forget that the rivers in this state are less manageable. The wonderful Butte County scenery and the cool fresh water have people coming here. The PGandE Powerhouse to Covered Bridge section of Butte Creek in California is 6 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II+ section of whitewater. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling places. You can pitch a tent
or park your RV at a nearby campground. The PGandE Powerhouse to Covered Bridge stretch is the only paddling stretch along Butte Creek. On this section you do get some distance, suitable for an afternoon trip. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Chico, if you're not
familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. No shortage of good hotels, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The river winds through the Northern Sierra Nevada and you get great scenery.
