The natural beauty of California and the water flowing gracefully down Butte Creek attract people from near and far. The average California whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. This is the only paddling section along Butte Creek. On this section you do get some distance, suitable for an afternoon trip. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the
river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. This stretch of Butte Creek in California is 6 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater
to be a class II+ section. The put-in is not too far from Chico, as you can see on the road map further down. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. The wild scenery of the Northern Sierra Nevada is great.
Briefly about the general area: The yearly rainfall here at Butte Creek is about average; all through the month of January you get the most rain around here, and the driest month of the year is July. During the months of
summer at Butte Creek highs are usually in the 90's. When the night sets in temperatures descend down into the 60's.
