The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Whitewater paddling here in the Santa Lucia Range is a great experience. The beautiful scenery of Monterey County and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. The Los Padres Reservoir to Carmel Valley stretch is the only paddling stretch along Carmel River. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. There are nice comfortable hotels here, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The Los Padres Reservoir to Carmel Valley section of Carmel River is 10 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II-III(IV) section. This stretch is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so why not pack your camping stuff too. Briefly about the general area: Not much precipitation falls here at Carmel River; most of the rain falls through January, and July meanwhile is   the driest month. High temperatures at Carmel River during the months of summer are in the 70's, and during the night it cools down to the 50's. Highs through the wintertime are frequently in the 50's, and through the dark hours in the winter at Carmel River temperatures plunge to the 40's. Going for a hike on the San Clemente Trail is always a fine adventure, and you can go for a hike on the Rattlesnake Creek Trail. All year is a nice time in the Santa Lucia Range if you have a thing about the outdoors.
