The Cave Rock to Hangman's Bridge stretch of Carson River - East Fork in Alpine County is 7.3 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III section of whitewater. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Gardnerville Ranchos, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in California are often tougher than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. Not too many hotels nearby,
you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This river system has a few good paddling stretches and the Cave Rock to Hangman's Bridge section is one of them. Great exercise and spending some quality time
in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you won't find many other paddling places. The beauty of the Northern Sierra Nevada is a great plus for this river. The beautiful scenery of California and the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far. This is a pretty decent length section, you can easily run it on an afternoon. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground.
