The put-in location is a short drive from Gardnerville Ranchos, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in California are often more challenging than in other states, so don't forget that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you won't find many other paddling places.
This section of Carson River - East Fork in Alpine County is 20 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II section. The beauty of the Northern Sierra Nevada is a great plus for this river. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Hangman's
Bridge to CA-NV border section is one of them. The nature scenery of Alpine County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.

the beauty of mother nature reveals herself at Hot Springs. Throughout the months of summer, highs ordinarily are in the 70's at Carson River - East Fork. Summer nighttime lows sink down to the 40's. All through the wintertime the highs are generally in the 40's, and after the sun is down through the winter temperatures at Carson River - East Fork dip into the 20's.
