The average California whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. The scenic beauty of California and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there
are lots of good places for that around here. The starting point is not too far from Phoenix Lake-Cedar Ridge, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The Bourland Meadow to Cherry Lake stretch of Cherry Creek - West Fork in California is 9.5 miles long
and it is classified as a class V+ section by American Whitewater. The Central Sierra Nevada scenery is wonderful. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. This is the only paddling section along Cherry Creek - West Fork. This stretch is mid length, you can easily run it on an afternoon. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby.
