This stretch of Cherry Creek - West Fork in California is 9.5 miles long and has been rated as a class V+ section by American Whitewater. The nature scenery of California and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, suitable for an afternoon trip. The average California whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so don't forget that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. The
starting location is a short drive from Phoenix Lake-Cedar Ridge, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The Bourland Meadow to Cherry Lake section is the only
paddling section along Cherry Creek - West Fork. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of spots for that. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. The river winds through the Central Sierra Nevada and you get great scenery. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
