The Lower Bridge to Ward's Ferry section of Clavey River in California is 20.8 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class V+ section. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many runs in this state are not easy. The beautiful scenery of Tuolumne County and the water flowing gracefully down Clavey River are reasons enough to come here and paddle. a road map further down the page with more info on that. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so pack your sleeping bag. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking,
either way around here you'll find a large number of good spots. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. When you're paddling down a Central Sierra Nevada river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came.

the general area: During the summertime months highs here at Clavey River get into the 80's. Through the moonlight hours it's typically in the 50's. Through the winter highs are typically in the 40's; after the sun is down through the winter temperatures at Clavey River plunge
into the 20's. All the water falling down from the sky makes Clavey River a wet spot; most of the rain falls throughout January, and July on the other hand is the driest.
