The beautiful scenery of California and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream have people coming here. The Bear Pen Creek to Klamath River section of Trace Creek in California is 7 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class IV-V section. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. This stretch has has enough mileage, good for a one
day paddling trip. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short
distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is the only paddling section along Trace Creek. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The wild scenery of the Klamath Mountains is great.
Briefly about the general area: Summer brings highs in the 80's to Trace Creek. For the period of the moonlight hours it's frequently in the 40's. Daytime highs all through the wintertime are in the 40's; after the sun is down all through the winter temperatures at Trace Creek drop
into the 30's. Trace Creek gets a large amount of water; December is when you get the most rain here, and July is the month with the least moisture.
