The starting location is a reasonable drive from Madera, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The wonderful Madera County scenery and the cool fresh water beats anything. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. The river winds through the Central Sierra Nevada and you get great scenery. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Lodging     is available near the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The average California whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many runs in this state are not easy. Coarse Gold Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Coarsegold to Spinelli Road section is the only one. This is a pretty decent length section, you can easily run it on an afternoon. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of spots for that.
