  Whitewater rafting and kayaking in California is often more difficult than elsewhere, so better not forget that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. This stretch of Cottonwood Creek - Middle Fork in Shasta/ Tehama County is 11.1 miles long and is a class IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the Knob Gulch confluence to Platina Road section is just one of many. You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. Not too
    many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking
or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good spots for that around here. The beautiful Klamath Mountains scenery is an added bonus. The wonderful California scenery and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby.

Cottonwood Creek - Middle Fork is a good site of normal rain; through January this area sees the most rain, and July is the month with the least moisture. Life's too short to enjoy all the amusing stuff in
 
the Klamath Mountains. Cottonwood Creek - Middle Fork is right by the Bluford Trail.
Throughout the warm days of summer at Cottonwood Creek - Middle Fork highs are generally in the 90's. When the night sets in temperatures dip down into the 40's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 40's, and winter nights come with lows in the 20's to Cottonwood Creek - Middle Fork. Spring Gulch is in the vicinity of Cottonwood Creek - Middle Fork and is beyond doubt a brilliant place to visit, and a cool spot to have a look at is Old Man Rock.
