Horse Creek to Lake Pillsbury section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS IV-V 18 miles
The Horse Creek to Lake Pillsbury section of Eel River is 18 miles long and it is classified as a class IV-V section by American Whitewater. The wonderful California scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Clearlake, as you can see on the road map further down. The Horse Creek to Lake Pillsbury section is one of many paddling sections in this river system. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good
rivers for that around here. The campgrounds here at Eel River are pretty good. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your camping stuff. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature will
have you coming back for more. The beauty of the Klamath Mountains is a great plus for this river. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more demanding, so you'd better keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.
