The Lake Pillsbury to Bucknell Creek section of Eel River in Lake County is 5.7 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. The starting location is a short drive from Clearlake, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so you'd better keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are
sure to keep you coming back for more. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This stretch is mid length, it's perfect for a one day trip. You might be into whitewater rafting
or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling spots. The Lake Pillsbury to Bucknell Creek stretch is one of many paddling stretches in this river system. The Coast Ranges scenery is wonderful. The beautiful scenery of Lake County and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby.
Briefly about the general area: The Slides is an attention-grabbing thing to catch a sight of if you're here at Eel River, and a short journey to Pebble Spring
is always worthwhile. At Eel River through the summertime highs are in the 90's; during summer nights temperatures are in the 50's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 50's while Eel River nighttime low temperatures during the wintertime are in the 30's.
The high level of rainfall makes Eel River a reasonably wet place; January is the wettest month with most rain, and the driest of the months is July. And if that's not enough there's plenty more exciting things to do in the Coast Ranges. Pine Mountain Spring is an inspiring spot to stop by during your stay.
