The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so better not forget that many runs in this state are not easy. The Van Arsdale Dam to Dos Rios section of Eel River is 35 miles long and is a class II-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near. Since you're on this site you are probably     into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good spots. The scenic beauty of Mendocino County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. A section like this is is of course not run in a single day, so better bring your camping gear along. The campgrounds here at Eel River are pretty good. Whitewater paddling here in the Coast Ranges is a great experience. Briefly about the general area: All the water falling down from the sky makes Eel River a wet location; most of the rain falls during January while July is ordinarily the driest month. Now, you may think   that's a lot but there's even more amusing stuff to do here in the Coast Ranges. Old Woman Canyon is a magnificent place to look at; the beauty of mother nature reveals herself at Buckhorn Spring. Throughout the days of summer, highs regularly are in the 90's at Eel River. When the night sets in temperatures dip down into the 50's. High temperatures through the wintertime are normally in the 50's while the cold winter nights at Eel River are in the 30's.
