The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in California are often tougher than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable. If you're coming from Ukiah it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of     people coming here. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. There's camping available near Eel River. Now this is a pretty long section, perfect for a real wilderness adventure. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places. This section of Eel River is 35 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-III section of whitewater. The river winds through the Coast Ranges and you get great scenery. Briefly about the general area: Eel River is a quite wet place regularly with a lot of rainfall; January is when you get the most rain here; July is when it's the driest. Now,   you may imagine that's heaps but there's even more enjoyable stuff to do here in the Coast Ranges. Summertime at Eel River arrives with high temperatures in the 90's. Through the dark hours of summer temperatures sink down into the 50's. Daytime highs throughout the winter are in the 50's while the cold winter nights at Eel River are in the 30's. A splendid location next to Eel River is Old Woman Canyon, and Buckhorn Spring is always fun to check out.
