The Van Arsdale Dam to Dos Rios section of Eel River in California is 35 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-III section. The scenic beauty of California and the water flowing gracefully down Eel River will make you feel great. A stretch of this length does require some preparations, so it looks like you will be camping out. The Van Arsdale Dam to Dos Rios section is one of many paddling sections in this     river system. The Coast Ranges scenery is wonderful. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside California you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so better not forget that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Briefly about the general area: All the water falling down from the sky makes Eel River a wet site; through January this area   sees the most rain, and the driest month is July. At Eel River through the summer highs are in the 90's. Summer overnight lows fall down to the 50's. Highs during the wintertime are commonly in the 50's, and night lows through the wintertime for Eel River tend to be in the 30's. A splendid place to pop by in close proximity to Eel River is Old Woman Canyon, and don't leave Eel River without first paying a visit to Buckhorn Spring.
