California whitewater - Eel River, Coast Ranges, Mendocino/ Trinity/ Humboldt County Mendocino/ Trinity/ Humboldt county, Dos Rios to Alderpoint section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II-IV     47 miles   I want to take a small group down the river from Dos Rios to Alderpoint, but due to physical issues for some of the party, need to be able to get very close to river with 4 wheel access.  Can I pay someone who lives close to the river an access fee to launch our equipment?   Says Tom The scenic beauty of Mendocino/ Trinity/ Humboldt County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so keep     in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The river winds through the Coast Ranges and you get great scenery. There are so many stretches to paddle in this river system, the Dos Rios to Alderpoint stretch is just one of many. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling spots. Now this is a pretty long section, so it looks like you will be camping out. The Dos Rios to Alderpoint stretch of Eel River is 47 miles long and it is classified as a class II-IV section by American Whitewater. If you're   a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Briefly about the general area: Eel River is right by the Ben Duncan Mailbox Trail. Much rainfall falls at Eel River; the wettest month of the year is mostly December, that's the one that rains the most; the driest of the months is July. Through the warm months highs here at Eel River reach the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures dip down into the 50's. Through the winter this place gets highs in the 40's, and overnight lows at Eel River during the wintertime mostly dip into the 30's.
