The nature scenery of California and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The Dos Rios to Alderpoint section of Eel River in Mendocino/ Trinity/ Humboldt County is 47 miles long and is a class II-IV section of whitewater     according to American Whitewater. Whitewater paddling here in the Coast Ranges is a great experience. A stretch this long is of course too much for a one day trip, perfect for a real wilderness adventure. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places. Briefly about the general area: All through the warm months, highs ordinarily are in the 80's at Eel River. Through the dark hours of summer temperatures sink down into the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 40's, and winter nights come with lows in the 30's to Eel River. Hiking   along the Ben Duncan Mailbox Trail is glorious fun. Eel River sees pretty high levels of rainfall; December is when you get the most rain here; July is when it's the driest.
