CLASS II 22.1 miles
The wonderful Humboldt County scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream have people coming here. The South Fork Eel to Rio Dell section of Eel River is 22.1 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II section. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you won't find a large number
of other spots. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. If you're
a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. There are no other sections to paddle along Eel River than the South Fork Eel to Rio Dell section. When you're paddling down a Coast Ranges river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. The put-in location is a short drive from Eureka-Arcata-Fortuna, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so go ahead and pack your camp stove.
