The wonderful Humboldt County scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water attract people from near and far. The starting location is a short drive from Eureka-Arcata-Fortuna, as you can see on the road map further down. The South Fork Eel to Rio Dell stretch of Eel River in Humboldt County is 22.1 miles long and has been rated as a class II section by American Whitewater. When you're paddling down a Coast Ranges river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. The average California whitewater rafting or kayaking river
tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so keep in mind that many runs in this state are not easy. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are not so many other good places for that around here. Eel River doesn't have a lot of paddling sections,
the South Fork Eel to Rio Dell section is the only one. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so pack your sleeping bag. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
