The natural beauty of Mendocino County and the playfulness of the water have people coming here. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the Black Butte River to     Dos Rios section is just one of many. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of spots for that. The beautiful Coast Ranges scenery is an added bonus. A stretch of this length does require some preparations, so make sure you pack enough food along with your camping gear. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside California you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so don't forget that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 90's to Eel River - Middle Fork while overnight lows are generally in the 50's. Through the winter highs are generally in the 50's, and through the dark hours in the winter at Eel River - Middle Fork temperatures sink to the 30's.
