Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Ukiah, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The wonderful California scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water beats anything. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good spots. There's camping available near Eel River - South
Fork. The river winds through the Coast Ranges and you get great scenery. On this section you do get some distance, suitable for an afternoon trip. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll
have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The Close to Branscomb to Big Bend section of Eel River - South Fork in California is 9.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class IV-V section. This is not the only paddling stretch in this river system, there are others too.
Briefly about the general area: High temperatures at Eel River - South Fork during the warm days of summer are in the 80's, and the overnight is a little colder of course, mostly in the 50's. Highs
throughout the winter are typically in the 40's, and after the sun is down through the wintertime temperatures at Eel River - South Fork plunge into the 30's. You just can't envision the amount of outdoors entertaining things the Coast Ranges has to offer. Dark Canyon is in
the neighborhood of Eel River - South Fork and is a wonderful site, and some attention-grabbing geology is available here, Horseshoe Bend is right here. Eel River - South Fork gets a good deal of water; the month of January is the wettest with most of the rain, and the driest month is July.
