The Big Bend to Piercy stretch of Eel River - South Fork is 21 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-III section of whitewater. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in California is often tougher than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many runs in this state are not easy. The wonderful California scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream will make you feel great. There's camping available near Eel River - South Fork. The Coast Ranges scenery is wonderful. A good workout and just
being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the Big Bend to Piercy stretch is just one of them. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good spots.
This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so pack your camping stuff. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination.
Briefly about the general area: Windy Gap is a great location to go to close by, and some great nature is available in Frank and Bess Smithe Redwood Grove. Summertime highs at Eel River - South Fork mostly tend to be in the 80's; the night is slightly chillier of course, mostly in
the 50's. High temperatures through the winter are normally in the 40's with temperatures at Eel River - South Fork dipping down into the 30's throughout winter nights. The high level of rain makes Eel River - South Fork a reasonably wet location; the month of December is the
wettest with most of the rain; the driest month is July. Yeah, come up here to the Coast Ranges for a great time. Mill Creek Falls is a fine local attraction.
