This section of Elk Creek in Siskiyou County is 5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-IV section. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in California are often more challenging than in other states, so don't forget that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. The natural beauty of Siskiyou County and the cool fresh water have people coming here. This stretch has has enough mileage, it's perfect for a one day trip. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the
night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. When you're paddling down a Klamath Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. The Elk Creek Road to Klamath River stretch is the only paddling stretch along Elk Creek.
Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby.
