  Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are less forgiving. The Cresta Dam to Poe Dam section of Feather River - North Fork in California is 6.5 miles long and has been rated as a class III-V section by American Whitewater. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of places for
    that. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the Cresta Dam to Poe Dam section is just one of many. If you're coming from Chico it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar
with the area there's a road map further down the page. This stretch is mid length, suitable for an afternoon trip. The Northern Sierra Nevada scenery is wonderful. The scenic beauty of Plumas/ Butte County and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you donít have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. If you're a camper you can  
camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more.

Don't leave Feather River - North Fork without visiting Plumas National Forest, and you'll meet a lot of people from Stirling City here. Yep, outdoors exciting stuff truly is plentiful here in the Northern Sierra Nevada.
