Whitewater rafting and kayaking in California is often tougher than elsewhere, so better not forget that the rivers in this state are less manageable. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The Poe Dam to Poe Powerhouse section is one of many paddling sections in this river system. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. The wild scenery of the Northern Sierra Nevada is great. The Poe Dam to Poe Powerhouse stretch     of Feather River - North Fork is 7.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class IV-V section. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This stretch is mid length, good for a one day paddling trip. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Chico, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Briefly about the general area: The high level of rain makes Feather River - North Fork a relatively wet site; January is the wettest month with most rain, and July on the other hand is the driest. High temperatures at Feather River - North Fork   through the summertime are in the 80's. Summer nighttime lows fall down to the 50's. For the duration of the winter highs are in the 50's while Feather River - North Fork overnight low temperatures all through the wintertime are in the 30's. Bardees Bar is a good location to check out nearby, and Batchelor Point is not far at all. Yeah, come up here to the Northern Sierra Nevada for a wonderful time.
