The natural beauty of California and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. If you're coming from Chico it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the Poe Dam to Poe Powerhouse section is just one of many. The Poe Dam to Poe Powerhouse stretch of Feather River - North Fork in California is 7.5 miles long and has been rated as a class IV-V section by American
Whitewater. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The beautiful Northern Sierra Nevada scenery is an added bonus. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because
it is a very popular destination. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's good length for a morning trip. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good spots for that around here. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in California is often more difficult than elsewhere, so don't forget that the rivers in this state are less manageable.
