The starting location is a reasonable drive from Madera, as you can see on the road map further down. The nature scenery of Madera County and the water flowing gracefully down Fresno River attract people from near and far. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system,     the Goldside Drive off road 600 to Road 600 stretch is one of them. The river winds through the Central Sierra Nevada and you get great scenery. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. This section of Fresno River in Madera County is 3 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-V section of whitewater. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good spots. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. This stretch is short so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. Briefly about the general area: If you're here, you might as well stop by French Gulch. All the water falling down from the sky makes Fresno River   a wet spot; January is the wettest month with most rain; the driest month of the year is July. High temperatures at Fresno River through the summer months are in the 80's while overnight lows are typically in the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 40's with temperatures at Fresno River dipping down into the 20's throughout winter nights.
