California whitewater - Fresno River, Central Sierra Nevada, Madera County Madera county, Road 600 to Road 415 section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS IV-V(V+)     11 miles   The average California whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. The starting point is not too far from Madera, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so pack your sleeping bag. There are many good hotels to choose from, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother     nature have people coming from far and near. The wonderful California scenery and the cool fresh water have people coming here. The Central Sierra Nevada scenery is wonderful. The Road 600 to Road 415 section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This section of Fresno River is 11 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class IV-V(V+) section. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good spots for that around here. Briefly about the general area: French Gulch is a great place to explore. At Fresno River throughout the warm days of summer highs are in the 80's with overnight lows in the 50's. For the period of the winter the highs are usually in the 40's; during the dark hours in the wintertime at Fresno   River temperatures plunge to the 20's. Fresno River sees pretty high levels of rain; of all the months in a year January is the one with the most rain while July is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
