The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. The beautiful scenery of Madera County and the water flowing gracefully down Fresno River have people coming here. When you're paddling down a Central Sierra Nevada river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. There's camping available near Fresno River. You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so go ahead and pack your
sleeping bag. The starting point is not too far from Madera, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your
car. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of places for that. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. The Road 600 to Road 415 section of Fresno River in California is 11 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class IV-V(V+) section. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near.

River temperatures are ordinarily in the 80's, and during the night it cools down to the 50's. High temperatures through the winter are normally in the 40's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Fresno River. Near Fresno River you come across French Gulch which is a tremendous
spot to take a look at. Fresno River is a pretty wet place ordinarily with a lot of rainfall; most of the rain falls all through January while July is the month with the least amount of precipitation.
