The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Madera, as you can see on the road map further down. The campgrounds here at Fresno River are pretty good. The Road 415 to boat ramp Close to dam at Lake Hensley section of Fresno River is 12 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class IV-V+ section. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. No shortage of good hotels, and if     you make reservations in advance you're all set. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside California you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Road 415 to boat ramp Close to dam at Lake Hensley stretch is one of them. This stretch is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so pack your camping stuff. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a large number of good places. Briefly about the general area: Summer brings highs in the 80's to Fresno River with night lows in the 50's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 40's, and night lows in the 20's for Fresno River.   Pecan Spring is an inspiring location to go to while here, and Fresno River is not far at all from Madera. A typical amount of rain falls here at Fresno River; January is when you get the most rain here while July is mostly the driest month.
