The Saddle Road to South Fork Smith confluence stretch of Goose Creek in Del Norte County is 5.6 miles long and it is classified as a class V section by American Whitewater. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Crescent City North, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Whitewater paddling here in the Coast Ranges is a great experience. This is a pretty decent length section, suitable for an afternoon trip. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem
but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. There are no other stretches to paddle
along Goose Creek than the Saddle Road to South Fork Smith confluence stretch. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. The beautiful scenery of California and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in California are often tougher than in other states, so keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners.

generally in the 50's. During the winter highs are in the 50's, and after the sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at Goose Creek fall into the 30's.
