This section of Hayfork Creek is 21 miles long and has been rated as a class IV-V section by American Whitewater. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling places. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so why not pack your
camp stove too. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The Coast Ranges scenery is wonderful. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with
mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. The 3 miles West of Hayfork to Hyampom stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. The scenic beauty of California and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream beats anything.
Briefly about the general area: At Hayfork Creek through the summer highs are in the 90's. When the night sets in temperatures fall down into the 50's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 40's, and winter nights come with lows in the 30's to Hayfork Creek. Yep, outdoors enjoyable
stuff truly is bountiful here in the Coast Ranges. The high level of rain makes Hayfork Creek a quite wet spot; through the month of December you get the most rain around here, and the driest month of the year is July. Put some time aside to spend at Fir Root Spring since you're here at Hayfork Creek, and Big Canyon is definitely a magnificent place to pop by.
