The beautiful scenery of Del Norte County and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. If you're coming from Crescent City North it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down. The Bear Basin Road to Big Flat Road section of Hurdygurdy Creek in California is 7.7 miles long and is a class V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations
in advance you're all set. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so keep in mind that many runs in this state are not easy. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's perfect
for a one day trip. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The Coast Ranges scenery is wonderful. Hurdygurdy Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Bear Basin Road to Big Flat Road section is the only one. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people.
