The Forks of Kern to Johnsondale Bridge section of Kern River in Tulare County is 16.8 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-V section. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so don't forget that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. There's camping available near Kern River. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so pack your camping stuff. Since
you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. The scenic beauty of Tulare County and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. You might have to settle for
a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This is not the only paddling stretch in this river system, there are others too. The Southern Sierra Nevada scenery is wonderful.
Briefly about the general area: During the summertime months at Kern River temperatures are frequently in the 90's while overnight lows are frequently in the 60's. Through the winter the highs are ordinarily in the 50's, and winter nights come with lows in the 30's to Kern River. Near
Kern River you hit upon Cedar Canyon which is a good location to go to. Kern River is a good spot of common precipitation; the wettest month of the year is frequently January, that's the one that rains the most, and July on the other hand is the driest.
