Whitewater rafting and kayaking in California is often tougher than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are less forgiving. This stretch of Kern River is 7 miles long and it is classified as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. The beautiful scenery of California and the sparkling     of the sunlight on the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a large number of good spots. The wild scenery of the Southern Sierra Nevada is great. This is a pretty decent length section, it's good length for a morning trip. Briefly about the general area: While staying at Kern River you could always discover Hot Spring Valley. Summer brings highs in the 80's to Kern River. When the night sets in temperatures dip down into the 50's. Highs   during the wintertime are frequently in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Kern River are in the 20's. The annual precipitation here at Kern River is about average; the month with most of the rain is January, and the driest month is July.
