Whitewater rafting and kayaking in California is often tougher than elsewhere, so better not forget that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots.     This stretch has has enough mileage, it's perfect for a one day trip. The Southern Sierra Nevada scenery is wonderful. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This is not the only paddling stretch in this river system, there are others too. The put-in is not too far from Bakersfield, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The natural beauty of Kern County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Briefly about the general area: The yearly precipitation here at Kern River is about average; through the month of January you get the most rain around here; the driest of the months is July. For the duration of   the warm days of summer highs here at Kern River get into the 80's. Summer night lows descend down to the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 40's, and nighttime lows through the wintertime for Kern River tend to be in the 20's.
