This section of Kern River is 12 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class V+ section of whitewater. There are so many stretches to paddle in this river system, the Democrat Hot Springs to mouth of canyon stretch is just one of many. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way     this is an area with not too many other spots for that. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so why not pack your camp stove too. Briefly about the general area: Saturday Spring is an inspiring spot to visit during your stay, and don't leave Kern River without   first paying a visit to Willow Spring. Kern River is pretty dry usually; January is when you get the most rain here while July is generally the driest month. At Kern River all through the summer months highs are in the 90's. For the period of the dark hours of summer temperatures sink down into the 50's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 50's, and after the sun is down all through the winter temperatures at Kern River fall into the 20's.
