California whitewater - Kings River, Central Sierra Nevada, Fresno County
Fresno
county,
Garnet Dike Campground to Kirch Flat Campground section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS III-IV 9.5 miles
This is a great place to paddle, specially in late spring. It slows down in the summer and gets very rocky but it's a fun run even then. Says Bob
The Garnet Dike Campground to Kirch Flat Campground section of Kings River in Fresno County is 9.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-IV section of whitewater. The natural beauty of California and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. This is a pretty decent length section, it's perfect for a one day trip. Great exercise and spending some quality
time in nature are great attractions for lots of people. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in California are often tougher than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. The Central
Sierra Nevada scenery is wonderful. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good places for that around here. The campgrounds here at Kings River are pretty good. This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the Garnet Dike Campground to Kirch Flat Campground stretch is just one of them.
