The beautiful scenery of California and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in California is often more difficult than elsewhere, so keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. The Kings River Powerhouse to Big Creek Cove section of Kings River is 7 miles long and has been rated as a class II(III)
section by American Whitewater. Whitewater paddling here in the Central Sierra Nevada is a great experience. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of spots for that. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while are
great reasons to come. There are so many stretches to paddle in this river system, the Kings River Powerhouse to Big Creek Cove stretch is just one of many. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, good for a one day paddling trip. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground.
Briefly about the general area: Summertime highs at Kings River regularly tend to be in the 90's, and the nighttime is a little colder of course, typically in the 60's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 50's; overnight
lows in the 30's for Kings River. Kings River is pretty dried out typically; most of the rain falls all through January while July is commonly the driest month. If you crave a little side tour, try Lone Pine Canyon.
