The beautiful scenery of Fresno County and the water flowing gracefully down Kings River make the trip here worthwhile. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in California is often more difficult than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are not suitable for beginners. This stretch of Kings River in California is 7 miles long and it is classified as a class II(III) section by American Whitewater. This is a pretty decent length section, it's good length for a morning trip. Whitewater paddling here in the Central Sierra Nevada is
a great experience. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater
rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good spots for that around here. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the Kings River Powerhouse to Big Creek Cove stretch is just one of them.
Briefly about the general area: Kings River is a location that is relatively dried out typically; most of the rain falls during January; July on the other hand is the driest. A good location in the neighborhood of Kings River is Lone Pine Canyon.
During the summertime at Kings River highs are generally in the 90's. Summer overnight lows drop down to the 60's. High temperatures throughout the winter are normally in the 50's, and winter nights come with lows in the 30's to Kings River.
