Siskiyou
county,
Iron Gate Dam to Sarah Totten Camp Ground section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS II 48 miles
The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in California are often tougher than in other states, so better not forget that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. The Iron Gate Dam to Sarah Totten Camp Ground stretch of Klamath River in Siskiyou County is 48 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II section of whitewater. The wild scenery of the Siskiyou Mountains is great. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance
because these hotels fill up quick. The natural beauty of California and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water have people coming here. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way around here you won't find a large number of other spots. Klamath River
doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Iron Gate Dam to Sarah Totten Camp Ground stretch is the only one. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. A stretch of this length does require some preparations, so make sure you pack enough food along with your camping gear. The starting location is a short drive from Medford, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that.
