CLASS II 48 miles
This stretch of Klamath River is 48 miles long and it is classified as a class II section by American Whitewater. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Medford, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. A section like this is is of course not run in a single day, so better bring your camping gear along. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while are sure
to keep you coming back for more. The Siskiyou Mountains scenery is wonderful. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a pretty small number of paddling rivers. Klamath River doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Iron Gate Dam to
Sarah Totten Camp Ground stretch is the only one. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in California is often tougher than elsewhere, so better not forget that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. There's camping available near Klamath River. The scenic beauty of California and the cool fresh water beats anything.
Briefly about the general area: Summertime brings highs in the 80's to Klamath River, and all through the night it cools down to the 50's. Through the winter highs are in the 40's, and winter nights come with lows in the 20's
to Klamath River. At this river you will always have a good time. Klamath River gets very little rainfall; most of the rain falls all through December while July is mostly the driest month. Man, is there loads of fun stuff to do in the Siskiyou Mountains. While you're here
at Klamath River you can take a hike along the Copper Trail, and the beauty of mother nature reveals herself at Horse Trough Spring. Have a glorious hiking adventure along the Clear Creek Trail; China Gulch is also a great place to explore.
