Whitewater rafting and kayaking in California is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. The beautiful scenery of California and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. There are campgrounds quite near the
river where you can camp. The river winds through the Klamath Mountains and you get great scenery. The Sarah Totten Campground to Happy Camp stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. A stretch this long is of course too much for a one day trip, so it looks
like you will be camping out. This stretch of Klamath River in California is 36 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III section. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.
Briefly about the general area: During the warm days of summer highs here at Klamath River get into the 90's. Once the sun is down it drops down to the 50's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Klamath River are
in the 30's. Klamath River sees pretty high levels of rainfall; the wettest month of the year is mostly December, that's the one that rains the most, and July is when it's the driest. No need to travel far to stop by out of the ordinary stuff like Limestone Bluffs.
