California whitewater - Klamath River, Coast Ranges, Humboldt County
Humboldt
county,
Orleans to Weitchpec section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS II 16 miles
The Orleans to Weitchpec section of Klamath River in Humboldt County is 16 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II section. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that many runs in this state are not easy. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The campgrounds here at Klamath
River are pretty good. The beauty of the Coast Ranges is a great plus for this river. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. This section has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so why not pack your camp stove too. Great
exercise and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. This is not the only paddling section in this river system, there are others too. The beautiful scenery of Humboldt County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water have people coming here.
Briefly about the general area: If you would like a little side journey, try Red Cap Gulch. Klamath River gets a large amount of water; through the month of December you get the most rain around here while July is commonly the driest month. For the duration of the summertime here
at Klamath River, high temperatures ordinarily reach the 90's, and the night is fairly chillier of course, usually in the 50's. High temperatures all through the wintertime are normally in the 50's; nighttime lows during the winter for Klamath River tend to be in the 30's.
