California whitewater - Little Sulphur Creek, Coast Ranges, Sonoma County Sonoma county, Healdsburg-Geyserville Road to Big Sulphur Creek section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS IV-V+     11 miles   The Healdsburg-Geyserville Road to Big Sulphur Creek stretch of Little Sulphur Creek is 11 miles long and has been rated as a class IV-V+ section by American Whitewater. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Clearlake, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. This is the only paddling section along Little Sulphur Creek. The beautiful scenery of California and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water have people coming here. The beautiful Coast Ranges scenery is an added bonus. Since you're on this site you are probably     into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you won't find a large number of other rivers. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so why not pack your camp stove too. Briefly about the general area: The high level of rain makes Little Sulphur Creek a pretty   wet spot; January is the wettest month with most rain; the driest month of the year is July. Summer brings highs in the 90's to Little Sulphur Creek, and during the night it cools down to the 50's. During the winter highs are in the 50's, and after the sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at Little Sulphur Creek plunge into the 30's.
