There's camping available near Mad River. There are a few other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. On this section you do get some distance, suitable for an afternoon trip. people coming here. The beautiful Coast Ranges scenery is an added bonus. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in California are often tougher than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less manageable. You
might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places.
Briefly about the general area: If you're here, you might as well go to Secret Gulch, and there are wonderful places to look at along the Rough Gulch Trail. So much entertaining stuff in the Coast Ranges, just astonishing. Go for a hike
on the Ben Arthur Trail. Through the summer months here at Mad River, high temperatures regularly reach the 90's with overnight lows in the 50's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 40's with winter lows in the 30's overnight here at Mad River. All the water
falling down from the sky makes Mad River a wet location; the month of December is the wettest with most of the rain while July is frequently the driest month.
