North and South Fork confluence to Barry Creek Road section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS III 5.8 miles
The North and South Fork confluence to Barry Creek Road stretch of Mad River is 5.8 miles long and has been rated as a class III section by American Whitewater. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so don't forget that many of the rivers here are not very forgiving. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. The natural beauty of California and the cool fresh water will make you feel great. This is a pretty
decent length section, it's good length for a morning trip. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make
reservations in advance you're all set. Whitewater paddling here in the Coast Ranges is a great experience. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of rivers for that.
Briefly about the general area: Mad River is a wet site that gets a good deal of precipitation; throughout December this area sees the most rain, and July meanwhile is the driest month. Have a great hiking adventure along the Ben Arthur Trail, and Secret Gulch is a perfect location to spend some time.
All through the days of summer highs here at Mad River reach the 90's. Through the moonlight hours it's ordinarily in the 50's. Highs during the winter are usually in the 40's while Mad River overnight low temperatures through the wintertime are in the 30's. Now, you may assume that's loads but there's even more exciting things to do here in the Coast Ranges. Hiking along the Rough Gulch Trail is nice fun.
