This stretch of Mad River in California is 12.2 miles long and is a class II-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. You can enjoy this section more if you take your time, so why not pack your camp stove too. Whether you're whitewater rafting
or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system,
there are a few others too. When you're paddling down a Coast Ranges river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners.
Briefly about the general area: High temperatures at Mad River throughout the summertime are in the 80's while nighttime lows are frequently in the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 40's while
the cold winter nights at Mad River are in the 30's. Since you're here at Mad River why not stop by Tierney Canyon. Mad River regularly gets a large amount of rain; December is when you get the most rain here, and July is the month with the least moisture.
