The natural beauty of Trinity/ Humboldt County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water will make you feel great. The average California whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time     outdoors have a lot of people coming here. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so pack your camping stuff. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good spots. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The river winds through the Coast Ranges and you get great scenery. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. Briefly about the general area: Nearby Tierney Canyon is a nice place to go if you're at Mad River. At Mad River throughout the summer months highs are in the 80's. For the period of the   dark hours of summer temperatures dip down into the 50's. Through the wintertime this place gets highs in the 40's with winter lows in the 30's overnight here at Mad River. Mad River sees pretty high levels of rainfall; through the month of December you get the most rain around here, and July is when it's the driest.
