The put-in location is a short drive from Redding, as you can see on the road map further down. The wonderful California scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. A good workout
and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so pack your camp stove. The campgrounds here at McCloud River are pretty good. Since you're on this site you are probably into
whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Fowler Campground to McCloud Reservoir section is one of them. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in California is often more difficult than elsewhere, so keep in mind that rivers here are less forgiving. When you're paddling down a Southern Cascade Range river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too.
