The put-in is not too far from Redding, as you can see on the road map further down. The average California whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be harder to run than those in other states, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the sections here are not safe for beginners. The beautiful scenery of Siskiyou County and the cool fresh water beats anything. There's camping available near McCloud River. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. If you have the time you can make this a
two day trip, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. Whitewater paddling here in the Southern Cascade Range is a great experience. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. This is one of a small number of paddling sections
in this river system, there are a few others too. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This stretch of McCloud River is 10 miles long and it is classified as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater.
Briefly about the general area: McCloud River sees pretty high levels of rainfall; January is the wettest month with most rain, and July is when it's the driest. At this river you will always have a good time. Good hiking
is available along the Angel Meadow Trail. A trip to McCloud River wouldn't be complete without taking a look at Big Springs; a tremendous place to take a look at close by is Coyote Gulch. You just can't imagine the amount of outdoors amusing stuff the Southern Cascade Range
has to offer. Go for a hike on the Cone Point Trail, and do schedule some time to explore Cone Point if you have a chance. Summertime at McCloud River arrives with high temperatures in the 80's. During the dark hours of summer temperatures drop down into the 40's. The winter brings highs down to the 40's, and overnight lows at McCloud River through the winter ordinarily dip into the 20's.
