The put-in is not too far from Redding, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This section of McCloud River is 24 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-IV section of whitewater. The McCloud Reservoir to Lake Shasta stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you     make reservations in advance you're all set. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling rivers. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The average California whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master than those in other states, so don't forget that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. The beautiful Southern Cascade Range scenery is an added bonus. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. Briefly about the general area: McCloud River gets a lot of water; the wettest month of the year is usually January, that's the one that rains the most, and the driest month of the year is   July. White Rock is a pleasant spot to stop at while in the vicinity. Summertime highs at McCloud River usually tend to be in the 80's, and through the night it cools down to the 40's. For the duration of the winter highs are in the 40's, and night lows in the 20's for McCloud River.
