The put-in location is a short drive from Redding, as you can see on the road map further down. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are not easy. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. There's camping available near McCloud River. A bit of exercise and a     chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of spots for that. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. When you're paddling down a Southern Cascade Range river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. The beautiful scenery of California and the cool fresh water have people coming here. Briefly about the general area: All through the warm months highs here at McCloud River get into the 80's. Once the sun is down it drops down to the 40's. During the winter the highs are ordinarily in the 40's; overnight   lows in the 20's for McCloud River. McCloud River is a relatively wet place frequently with a lot of rain; January is the wettest month with most rain, and July meanwhile is the driest month.
