The Greeley Hill Road to Merced confluence stretch of Merced River - North Fork is 17 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class IV-V(V+) section of whitewater. The scenic beauty of California and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream make the trip here worthwhile. If you hurry you can run this section in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. If you're coming from Phoenix Lake-Cedar Ridge it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map
further down. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling
spots. The beautiful Central Sierra Nevada scenery is an added bonus. The campgrounds here at Merced River - North Fork are pretty good. There are so many sections to paddle in this river system, the Greeley Hill Road to Merced confluence section is just one of many.
