Tehama
county,
Town of Mill Creek to First Diversion Dam section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS IV-V+ 43 miles
This section of Mill Creek is 43 miles long and has been rated as a class IV-V+ section by American Whitewater. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are not as easy as elsewhere. A section like this is is of course not run in a single day, perfect for a real wilderness adventure. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will make you glad you came. The put-in is not too far from Red Bluff, if you're not familiar with
the area there's a road map further down the page. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds
nearby. The scenic beauty of California and the cool fresh water have people coming here. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. The beautiful Northern Sierra Nevada scenery is an added bonus. Mill Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Town of Mill Creek to First Diversion Dam stretch is the only one.
Briefly about the general area: While you're here at Mill Creek you should take a look at Long Point; the beauty of mother nature reveals herself at Round
Mountain Spring. The amount of precipitation that falls at Mill Creek is close to the national average; through January this area sees the most rain, and July is when it's the driest. Summertime brings highs in the 90's to Mill Creek; all through summer nights temperatures
